As executive chef of The Buffet at Encore Boston Harbor, executive Chef Sidney Semedo showcases his multi-cultural background and diverse culinary style through serving authentic international cuisine and beloved local favorites.
Chef Sidney was born in Cabo Verde, a small country off the west coast of Africa. His mother was well known as a great cook throughout his local community and is the reason why he fell in love with cooking at an early age. As a teenager, he relocated to Boston and as a young man in a new country, he was looking to find his identity. It was through this search that he found himself in the kitchen; a place where could be creative and express himself through food. He put himself through culinary school and soon was working for some of the most prestigious hotels, restaurants and private clubs in the Boston area, including Mandarin Oriental Boston, Beacon Grille, Harvard Club of Boston, UMass Club of Boston and the Museum of Fine Arts.
In 2015, Sidney joined the Marriott International Hotels as executive chef. For four years, he oversaw food operations for three different hotels in multiple states: Marriott Atlanta Georgia, Marriott Newark New Jersey and most recently Marriott in West Palm Beach, Florida, before joining the Encore Boston Harbor culinary team in 2019.
Chef Sidney lives in Methuen, Massachusetts with his wife, Ivana, and their two daughters.
