Easter Activities in Boston

Last updated: March 2024

Boston is waking up to spring in a big way. Easter Sunday arrives early this year, falling on March 31. This holiday weekend is a great time to visit the season and indulge in the energetic epicenters of shopping, dining — brunch in particular — and other activities rooted in tradition and reverence.

Enjoy an Easter Meal at Rare Steakhouse

No Easter Sunday is complete without a great dining experience. The Rare Steakhouse Easter special menu is complete with vichyssoise soup, made with potato and decadent crab and finished with chive oil, followed by a 16-ounce Berkshire pork chop. Enjoy sweet potato gratin, rhubarb, raisins, and micro arugula on the side, and choose from the extensive wine list and craft cocktails to complement the dishes.

Reservations are highly recommended. Stop into Rare Steakhouse beyond this Sunday for its weekly special of lobster, filet, Ora salmon, and signature apple pecan cheesecake.

Hunt for Easter Eggs Throughout Boston

Easter holiday traditions are widely celebrated throughout Boston proper, and egg hunts are worth traversing outside the city limits to enjoy. Various Easter egg hunts taking place on farms and in themed venues offer exciting adventures complete with photo opportunities.

Some signature Easter egg hunts include a fun day at the Irish Cultural Center and several Easter bunny appearances with a special egg hunt at the Inn at Hastings Park in Lexington, MA.

Watch the Red Sox Game at Night Shift Brewing Kitchen & Tap

A Boston tradition, the Red Sox are playing an exciting Easter game at T-Mobile Arena in Seattle, WA. Since this away game starts later into the night on Saturday March, 30, Night Shift Brewing Kitchen & Tap is ready to welcome baseball fans from the fray for a late-night viewing.

With over 20 beers on tap and an elevated night-bite menu — including garlic and herb-buttered cheese curds and a “Double XL” pretzel featuring signature IPA beer cheese, to name a few — Saturday nights are not to be missed.

Have Brunch at On Deck

Enjoy brunch at On Deck with classic selections such as the breakfast burrito with chicken sausage, and chilaquiles featuring chipotle-tomato pulled chicken, avocado, beans, sour cream, and two fried eggs take center stage, while lighter fare such as yogurt parfaits and a fresh fruit plate hit the spot. For added color, order a mimosa or Bloody Mary to complement your morning coffee. Brunch at On Deck is available from 8 a.m.–12 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Attend Sunday Service at a Boston Church

Keep in line with devout Easter tradition by visiting one of Boston’s worship centers for Sunday mass. Nine locations across the city will offer both morning and afternoon services on March 31. These branches are famous for welcoming inclusive groups, allowing multiple styles of dress, and for offering citywide times for Easter celebrations. Additional services are available on Good Friday, from worship nights to evening masses.

Other locations include Holy Week celebrations at Boston’s Basilica and almost-daily mass times at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, among many others.

Just south of Boston proper, the Paragon Carousel opening weekend is ready to welcome the Easter crowds. As the sole remaining ride from Nantucket’s former Paragon Park, this historical staple is one of the last traditional carousels in the country, perfect for history buffs and antique fans looking to dive into nostalgia on the holiday weekend.

Starting at 11 a.m. on March 30, guests can take their photo with the Easter bunny against the nearly 100-year-old attraction. On Easter Sunday, ride goers of all ages can hop on the carousel from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. in between a noontime egg hunt.

Take a Nature Walk on the Boston Esplanade

When spring arrives in Boston, the city’s flora and fauna explode across nature preserves and parks. After brunch is complete, opt for a leisurely Easter stroll across the Boston Esplanade. The Charles River connects Cambridge to Boston across a lush landscape in between the Boston University Bridge and the Museum of Science. This is one of the many picturesque outdoor places where families frequent the playgrounds, check out the art installations, and enjoy the views.

For added benefit, get some exercise in and rent a bicycle to weave across the bridges and ride along the three-mile stretch of riverside path.

Hit the Markets at Faneuil Hall

This Easter, Faneuil Hall is open — perfect for a post-brunch visit. This iconic outpost on Boston’s Freedom Trail features shopping, dining, and entertainment to fill the Sunday hours. Don’t miss the street performers and their colorful displays throughout the day. Adjacent to these offerings, Quincy Market is also open, presenting hundreds of fun outposts for retail fun on Easter Sunday.

Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market are open from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. on Sunday, March 31.

Try for a Hidden Jackpot Surprise

Add some action to this holiday by Encore Boston Harbor. On March 31, bring your Wynn Rewards card to redeem your prize at any of the kiosks on the casino floor. Prizes range from $500 for 1,000 players, $50,000 for 45 players, and $100,000 for one lucky individual. All other participating players will receive $10 in free play.
